Stage 4 - Adjusting X-Axis Scales
The final stage to construct a Centigrade and Fahrenheit chart in excel is aligning the secondary scale with the primary temperature scale.
Adjust the primary temperature scale so that the values are fixed and the range is appropriate. In our example the upper temperature range on the chart was only 90C but 100C is more suitable. Also fixing the scale also prevents automatic changes if primary data alters.
To do this select the primary axis (on the left of the chart) right click and choose Format Axis as show above.
On the first tab choose a fixed minimum and maximum (as shown) and if required a suitable major unit. Then select Ok
Repeat the process for the secondary axis but this time the minimum and maximum temperature will equate to the primary scale in the converted temperature. Eg 0 Centigrade is 32 Fahrenheit and 100C is 212F
To do this select the secondary axis (on the right of the chart) and right click and select Format Axis, this brings up the Format Axis options for the secondary chart.
In our example the minimum is set to 32 (equivalent of 0C) and the maximum is set to 212 (equivalent of 100C) The major unit is set to 18 as there are 10 major unit lines (212-32)/10
By selecting Ok the secondary axis is rescaled; this aligns the Centigrade and Fahrenheit temperature scales and hides the secondary irrelevant data.
With minor finishing touches the Centigrade and Fahrenheit Excel Chart is complete.
This method is interchangeable for Centigrade, Fahrenheit or Kelvin or any other chart that requires two scales for one set of data.We hope that the Centigrade and Fahrenheit Excel Chart tutorial has helped you to create your required excel graph.
